TREE SPEAK: OH MY THAT IS A NOTEWORTHY TREE.:
In April 2009, Casey Trees launched the Casey Trees Map, an interactive online tool to help users determine the existing Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) and planting opportunities for any address in the District and identify every tree Casey Trees has planted since 2003.
Just today in a soft launch we rolled out an enhanced version of Casey Trees Map featuring our new Trees of Note program and Add-A-Tree feature.
Trees of Note is a program that connects people to trees in the District deemed special because of their size, history and/or personal significance. Anyone can nominate or locate trees in three distinguished categories – Big Trees, Witness Trees and My Tree.

Please plan to join us for an UNRI Informational Webcast, featuring the Tree Registry and Aggregating Tree Benefits Calculator, developed by the Maryland DNR and its partners. The tree registry enables Maryland residents to register multiple trees and aggregate their collective benefits using real time, locally generated costs. Data related to registered trees will be used to help Maryland track tree planting efforts as citizens and communities work to meet the tree planting goal of 50,000 trees in 2011, and the tree planting goal of one million trees in 2050.
Becky Wilson, MD DNR lead the effort, working with Davey Trees and the Forest Service to modify the tree benefits calculator initially developed by Casey Trees and Davey Trees. The new interactive web technology can be used to track tree planting, advocate for comprehensive tree management, empower citizens to plant more trees and help communities meet Urban Tree Canopy goals. They now have 7,000 data entries."

“The Grove” is geared toward encouraging people to plant a tree for a lasting legacy, while also helping replace the estimated 50 acres of tree canopy lost each day to development in the state between 1991 and 2005, she said.
Users can search for trees by life moments, such as marriage or retirement; by sentiment, such as expressing love or friendship; or by tree, to read the meaning of each. The site also teaches about selection, tree care and planting tips.

In an effort to educate, engage and encourage Georgians to plant trees and protect Georgia's urban tree canopy, the Georgia Urban Forest Council (GUFC) and the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) have joined forces to create a new Web site and online community called The Grove, GeorgiaGrove.org.
The Grove allows families and friends to share the experience of planting trees and commemorating special life moments. The Grove members can share their memories by uploading pictures and stories of their tree planting experiences for others to see and discuss. The Grove members can also create groups, or "groves," to connect, share and interact with other members within the virtual community.
