Maywood named Tree City USA for 27th consecutive year - Maywood, NJ

Maywood named Tree City USA

The Borough of Maywood has been named a Tree City USA community, as it has for 27 consecutive years, by the Arbor Day Foundation.

To become a Tree City USA community, Maywood met four requirements: a tree board or department, a comprehensive community forestry program, a tree-care ordinance and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Councilman Jack Savage, who serves as a liaison to the Shade Tree Commission, said that 59 trees were planted this year in Maywood. Three varieties of trees were planted this year: Zelkova, Hackberry and Red Sunset Maple.

Savage said that, prior to the planting, residents requested trees to be planted in front of their homes.
"Some streets really have no trees, and we tried to resolve that," said Savage.
